Landia welcomes government’s new investment in apprenticeships

Leading pump and mixing equipment manufacturer Landia has welcomed the government’s renewed commitment to creating tens of thousands of new apprenticeship and training opportunities.

With nearly one million young people in the UK aged 16 to 24 currently not in employment, education, or training, Landia views this initiative as a much-needed step forward. The company, known for its strong emphasis on practical, long-term development, believes that well-structured apprenticeships not only benefit industry but also help young people build rewarding careers.

Tamas Rieder, Service and Aftersales Manager at Landia and a key figure in mentoring the company’s apprentices, shared his thoughts:
“To truly benefit from apprenticeships, companies need to take full ownership of the training process. A business is only as strong as the team behind it—and that strength starts with quality training.

“Apprentices need the right tools, encouragement, time, and hands-on experience to thrive. Yes, it takes time, but the results speak for themselves. It’s incredibly rewarding to see young people grow into skilled, committed professionals. For us, it's a win-win. We now have five fully qualified former apprentices—three of whom have been with us for over ten years—and our newest recruit, Will Lewis, is close to completing his first year.”

Rieder added that smaller companies can no longer rely on a ready supply of skilled workers previously trained by large industry players: “The days when small firms could simply benefit from big companies' apprenticeship schemes are over—those giants aren’t there anymore. It’s now up to individual businesses to step up.”

Commenting on the government’s pledge to give young people “more opportunities to learn a trade, earn a wage, and thrive,” Rieder said the move is long overdue:
“For years, successive governments have relied on importing skilled labour rather than investing in training our own young people. The result? A generation of unskilled and unmotivated youth, through no fault of their own. It's time we reversed that trend. Investing in apprenticeships is investing in our future.”
