Eliminate Settlement Ponds at Quarries whilst Recycling Water

Sep 07 2012

MATEC In America (USA) has recently introduced revolutionary dewatering technology to North America, consisting of custom turnkey or component-based solutions. The two key systems are the decanter-style clarifiers that dewater over 80% of wastewater and the filter presses that produce ultra-dry cakes.

The MATEC line of water treatment equipment has enjoyed great success worldwide with over 850 installations. The reason for this success is attributed to the cleaning up and recovering up to 90% of process water and eliminating settlement ponds at quarries, mines, concrete ready-mix and other industrial wastewater processing facilities. With its network of dealers throughout North and Central America, MATEC In America has established credible service capacity and parts inventories, serving producers of any size.

MATEC’s core strength is the dewatering of industrial wastewater sludge without any additives after the thickening process, made possible by its proprietary technologies. Wastewater and settlement pond problems facing today’s aggregate producers and mines include issues with zoning, pollution, EPA sanctions and fines, water restrictions, tying up real estate plus the high cost of maintaining ponds.

Overcoming these problems lies within the heart of the MATEC Systems through the HPT High Pressure Filter Press and decanter-style Clarifier. Besides having a small footprint, the system has dramatically lower running and maintenance costs than any other method of water recovery or dewatering, and essentially has no moving parts.

The end result is a super-dry dirt cake that is so dense and so dry (80%+ solids), it can easily be stockpiled and sold as a desirable by-product for various other purposes. Further, the dirty water is filtered to a crystal clear state with as much as 90% of the process water being recycled. The most significant benefits of going pondless are substantial cost savings and quick ROI, reflected in freedom from pollution, environmental problems and the costs of maintaining the settlement ponds. The switch to a MATEC system results in very low operating costs for energy, water, manpower, wear and tear on earthmoving equipment and freed-up real estate.
