Windy above, but Borger’s tough pumps do the work below

14 Apr, 2025

Thirty meters beneath the ocean's surface, Borger's robust pumps are playing a crucial role in evacuating water from suction buckets that, paired with jacket substructures, anchor wind turbines to the seabed.

This innovative installation method, which generates minimal noise compared to traditional piling techniques, reduces disturbance to coastal communities, sea mammals, and marine life. It has already become a common practice in the oil and gas industry.

Instead of relying on pile drivers, Borger's pumps create a pressure differential by extracting water from large, steel, upside-down buckets (open on one side facing downward). The resulting vacuum, combined with the weight of the structures, forces the buckets into the seabed. Once securely anchored, the buckets are sealed off, ensuring stability.

Borger’s high-performance pumps, known for their compact design, are already widely used in both the marine and offshore sectors, offering an effective and environmentally-friendly solution to offshore installations.
