Teijin Frontier the fibres and textiles business of the Teijin Group, is ramping up its commitment to sustainable innovation with a major production boost for high tenacity recycled polyester filament yarn in Thailand. This eco-conscious, high-performance material plays a critical role in industrial applications such as tire cords, rubber reinforcement, and automotive seat belts.
The expansion is set to kick off this November at Teijin Polyester (Thailand) Limited (TPL), the company’s key manufacturing hub in Pathumthani. Once complete, the upgrade will increase production capacity by 620 tons per year, made possible through strategic improvements to upstream equipment.
Demand for recycled polyester filament yarn is accelerating worldwide—especially in Europe—thanks to tighter sustainability regulations like the EU’s End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) directive, which pushes for greater circularity in materials. At the same time, industries are seeking stronger, safer, and more functional materials to meet evolving performance and safety standards in automotive and industrial products.
However, current production limitations at TPL have presented a challenge: the same equipment used for recycled yarns is also needed for producing functional yarns with specialised features like flame resistance or extra strength. This expansion is Teijin Frontier’s answer to that bottleneck.
By investing in new infrastructure at TPL, Teijin Frontier aims to not only meet growing demand for high-tenacity recycled yarns but also pave the way for future innovations. The upgraded facility will enable dual production—allowing both recycled and functional yarns to be manufactured without compromise.
The company plans to market these yarns aggressively both in Japan and overseas, extending supply throughout the Teijin Frontier Group and beyond. Long-term, the upgraded lines will support the launch of next-generation recycled polyester filament yarns designed for even more demanding industrial applications.
