BioStym is an all natural product which is used in many different situations at municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants to reduce odours and improve biogas production. In recent applications BioStym is used to reduce odour levels emitting from dewatered biological sludge coming from the treatment plant. BioStym was added to the sludge prior to dewatering and helped reduce sulphide concentrations from 120 ppm to below detection levels.

Subsequently odours from H2S where not formed and the working conditions for the treatment plant operators improved and the surrounding area suffered no odour problems anymore. BioStym is composed out of fermented plant and seaweed extracts and contains trace elements, vitamins and enzymes that can be fully taken up by micro organisms which are present in the sludge. This stimulates them to convert the organics in the sludge in such a way that sulphate reducing microbes do not have a change to prolifirate and sulphide is not produced.
