The mobile treatment of combustible sludges, whether it be crude oil sludge, oil containing sewage sludge or slop residues, hold the risk of explosions. Irrespective of the location of the decanter processing the forenamed sludges may cause an explosive atmosphere inside the decanter. It is therefore necessary to consider the electrical fire protection as well as the mechanical items regarding to the ATEX guideline.

For the first time mobile 3-phase-decanter units are available which comply with the requirements of the ATEX guidelines 95 and 137. FILTRATEC (Germany) designed and constructed these mobile 3-phase-decanter-units and operates them primarily in refineries. The sludge containing system is gas-tight and covered with nitrogen. The sludge can be processed with high temperatures because of these features. The mobile plants are equipped with heat exchangers, the result  is that the separation is much more effective. The quality of the water phase fits the requirements of the wastewater treatment plants of the refineries and the recovered oil can be recycled to production. The quantity of solids are reduced to a minimum.

The mobile plants are completely equipped and each unit is mounted in 2 containers (40’), which are stacked in operating conditions.
