ERG expands capabilities in gas cleaning and odour abatement solutions

07 Nov, 2025

ERG Process Technologies has strengthened its position as a leading supplier of plastic reactor and scrubbing systems across Europe with the acquisition of Hygrade Industrial Plastics, a specialist in industrial plastic fabrication.

Already the trusted odour maintenance partner to every UK water company—including Thames Water, Southern Water, and Scottish Water—ERG’s latest acquisition significantly enhances its capabilities at industrial sites requiring advanced gas cleaning and odour abatement solutions.

Strengthening ERG’s Expertise and Reach

Richard Hanson, CEO of ERG Air Pollution Control Ltd, described the acquisition as a key milestone in the company’s growth strategy:

“This important new acquisition is a natural extension of ERG’s long-term vision. Hygrade brings specialist technical knowledge, a strong reputation, and fabrication expertise that will enable us to deliver even more effective and innovative solutions for our customers.”

Hanson noted that the move further enhances ERG’s manufacturing capabilities for plastic pressure vessels, ensuring full compliance with the Pressure Equipment Directive and BS EN 13121 standards for GRP tanks and vessels. With Hygrade’s facilities based in Rugby—a strategically central UK location—the acquisition strengthens ERG’s nationwide maintenance and odour control services for both the wastewater and process industries.

Driving Maintenance Innovation and Sustainability

Troy Gunn, General Manager at ERG APC Maintenance, highlighted the benefits for customers:

“We’re committed to elevating our maintenance services, which already help clients achieve major cost savings by repairing and upgrading ageing air pollution and odour control systems. This includes replacing spent bio-media, failed scrubber internals, and key filter components.”

Gunn added that ERG is focused on expanding its customer care and sustainable practices through enhanced monitoring and diagnostics, ensuring all ERG systems operate at peak efficiency and deliver long-term value.

Broadening Impact Across Key Sectors

Beyond the wastewater industry, ERG continues to serve a wide range of sectors including pharmaceutical, healthcare, chemical, metallurgical, PGM metal finishing, and renewable energy—demonstrating its growing influence in air pollution control and sustainable process engineering across the UK and Europe.
