Local councils offered air quality advice

Feb 14 2013

A presentation on how local authorities can use planning agreements to fund air quality monitoring will be given at the Air Quality and Emissions show in Telford in March.

The idea behind the show is that local councils will be able to seek advice on how to better use the finances available to them to improve air quality in their areas.

In addition, local councils will be able to ask for advice from professionals on how best to improve air quality.

Specificially, senior environmental scientist at consultancy Golder Associates, Ruth Fain, will explain how local authorities can use Section 106 planning agreements to ensure planned developments do not negatively affect the atmosphere.

Ms Fain will also speak about planning obligations, and why they are so important to local authorities in terms of air quality.

Indeed, it can often be difficult to obtain planning permission for certain developments owing to the potential air pollution they could create.

Ms Fain has explained that sometimes developments require additional commitments from the developer, something that she will explain in full detail at the event in March.

According to the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM), the meet is an essential tool in getting air quality in Britain back to a safe level.

At the event, there will be the main conference, as well as 50 workshops.

In addition, there will be an international exhibition of the latest technologies in air quality and emissions.

Topics covered in the event will include: Ambient Monitoring; CEMS; Dioxin Monitoring; Mcerts; Regulation; Calibration; Air Treatment; Discontinuous Monitoring; Gas Analysis; Data Acquisition; Workplace Monitoring; Fence Line Monitoring; Manual Stack Monitoring; Abatement Technologies; Fugitive Emissions; and Operator Monitoring Assessment, Air Quality News reports.
