Advanced Effluent Treatment

Mar 17 2010

SureWaters (UK) will demonstrate, on-site, one of the most advanced effluent treatment systems created. There are huge savings available to any concern currently using traditional effluent treatment, including chemical coagulation, biological plants and DAF plants.

Successful results have been achieved in dairy processing, abattoirs and meat processing, fish processing, water remediation, oil recovery, heavy metal removal and soil remediation.

The increasing cost of water, water disposal and water treatment chemicals causes a headache for many companies for which a newly perfected technology promises to provide the answer.

SureWaters Ltd., a Shropshire, UK based effluent waste water solutions company claims to have developed and perfected its electro-chemically activated coagulation technology (ECA)

The ECA system works like chemical coagulation in principle, but instead of adding chemicals to the effluent stream to induce coagulation, an electrical current passed through the effluent produces coagulation inside the ECA cell.

ECA removes colloids, C.O.D. and suspended solids without adding any chemicals to the effluent. Published papers refer to removal rates of 99% Fats, oils and greases, >90% B.O.D., 99% of suspended solids, >99% bacteria and 65% of C.O.D.

In addition ECA treatment is not restricted by pH

And because ECA does not add any chemicals to the effluent, it is generally possible to recycle the reclaimed water for “grey water” applications on a site.

Since ECA requires a clarification tank it is possible to install a system in front of existing DAF plant and stop using chemicals for treatment immediately. SureWaters says it can retro-fit complete process trains around current effluent treatment plant, to improve effluent cleaning, reduce sludge production and reduce operational costs.

“Where ECA is used as part of an effluent cleaning process train, we can often guarantee results to 93-97% reduction in Total Suspended Solids and at least a 75% reduction in COD.” says Tom Ritchie, managing partner of SureWaters Ltd.

SureWaters is unique in offering a fully representative mobile Fluid Treatment Laboratory which can treat 5-10m3 per hour continuously for proof of concept at customer sites. The equipment is so representative of scaled-up results that SureWaters will hang warranties and guarantees against the unit’s performance for the full installed commercial system.

At current prices for treatment chemicals and disposal SureWaters suggests a return on capital that can frequently show payback within year one of operation of its new plant.
