Severn Trent (UK), one of the UK’s largest water service companies, has announced a major new joint venture with the engineering solutions provider, Costain. The two have formed Severn Trent Costain to provide complete business water and wastewater management, from source to disposal, for high volume commercial and industrial water users in England, Wales and Scotland.

The new joint venture will combine the skills and experience of Severn Trent Services and Costain to offer large multi-site water users a single expert supplier for all of their water and waste water requirements enabling customers to focus on their core business. With a joined up approach to water management, Severn Trent Costain will help customers improve efficiencies, leverage cost savings, manage legal compliance and risk management issues and resolve water efficiency challenges. This new joint venture builds on the success of the existing longstanding joint venture that began in 2005 and delivers one of the largest PFI contracts in Europe to the MoD.

Severn Trent Costain will operate across England, Wales and Scotland, focusing on high volume commercial and industrial water users for whom water is a critical process element. Clients will typically include food and beverage, power generation, automotive, chemical and textiles companies’ multi-site businesses such as national retail chains, public services and hotel groups that can benefit from the significant synergies of a single supplier approach and consolidated billing and tariff management.

Earlier this year Severn Trent Services was granted a water services licence by the Water Industry Commission for Scotland. Together with its existing licences for England and Wales this makes it possible for customers with multiple sites across Great Britain to have a single water retail contract and services through Severn Trent Costain. The company aims to be at the forefront of regulatory change and develop a leading position in the emerging new competitive market.
