Severn Trent Costain (UK) has warmly welcomed the news that the Carbon Trust has launched an international standard for water reduction. The standard will encourage business’s to take action to measure, manage and reduce their water use.

Severn Trent Costain’s Managing Director, Wayne Earp said: “We wholeheartedly endorse the Carbon Trust’s view that addressing water use should be a very high priority for businesses. We firmly support this new standard set by a very respected source because there is an urgent need to transform the current situation”.

“The Carbon Trust is right in saying that the efficient use of resources can provide businesses with opportunities, and will enable them to thrive. Our own research proves that water efficiency measures can generate both water and energy savings that not only far outweigh the investment required, but also provide a wide spectrum of other benefits.”

Severn Trent Costain is a leading business water solutions provider with offices throughout the UK, providing an integrated, holistic service that covers all business water and wastewater needs. The leading UK dairy, First Milk, recently reached an agreement with Severn Trent Costain to become the first company to switch its water supplier since DEFRA altered the regulations to allow more businesses to chose their service provider.

Mr Earp added: “We applaud the new initiative launched by the Carbon Trust today which we hope will encourage business’s to address the latest water scarcity predictions and put long term sustainably targets at the top of the Board Room agenda. Water efficiency must be a business priority, not only because of the environmental and financial benefits, but also because increasingly companies’ reputations are tied to their performance in meeting sustainability targets and their legal environmental obligations.”
