Pump Improves Efficiency for Severn Trent Water

Nov 10 2010

As part of an initiative to improve process efficiency at its sewage treatment works in Nottinghamshire, England, Severn Trent Water has installed a Chroma progressing cavity (PC) pump from NOV® Mono® (UK) to pump digested sludge to the site’s centrifuges for thickening.

This major water supplier had been experiencing problems with the reliability of its previous pump gearboxes which were causing significant downtime at the plant and de-ragging the pump was also problematic due to the small access port which provided limited access.

Requiring a safe and cost effective solution fast, Severn Trent Water turned to Mono for the answer. Mono supplied its Chroma PC pump, which was delivered on a quick lead time, competitively priced and more importantly, was directly interchangeable with the existing pump so required no additional pipework modifications.

Regional Maintenance Advisor at the treatment works, Andy Berry, commented: “The Mono Chroma provided us with an effective solution. As well as benefiting from improved control over the process with a variable speed drive, de-ragging is much easier and we can take advantage of excellent spares lead times and pricing due to Mono being a UK based manufacturer.

“We have a superb working relationship with the Mono team and a strong framework agreement. We couldn’t be happier with the solution they have provided for us.”

Mono’s Chroma pump is an industrial progressing cavity pump which has been designed to be directly interchangeable with pumps from other PC pump suppliers. The Mono Chroma is cost effective, easy to install and can ease the burden of maintaining existing assets from other providers.

With no pipework or electrical modifications required, the Chroma has full size access ports as standard to enable easy de-ragging of the pump, without having to remove from the pipework. It is also designed to meet all Water Plc and WIMES industry standards, offering peace of mind to the end-user.

It is available in cast iron and 316 stainless steel casing parts, with wetted parts available in tool steel or 316 stainless steel. The pump comes complete with efficiency one geared-motor that complies with Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme and a five year warranty as standard.
