New Rainwater Drainage and Temporary Storage Concept at Batimat

Oct 08 2013

Nidaplast (France), specialists in sustainable rainwater management, proposes alternative retention and infiltration solutions. The company will unveil its latest innovation, a new concept called AZbox, at the Batimat trade show.

Making temporary rainwater storage structures more reliable with AZbox, the unique concept for storage and drainage via an incorporated drainage diffuser

AZbox modules, which consist of separate stackable elements that are assembled onsite, enable inspection and hydro-jetting of the structures at all levels. The 100% recyclable polypropylene AZbox module provides 95% water storage volume and has high compression strength (up to 500 kPa). “The AZbox retention and infiltration system serves as a temporary rainwater storage and allows creating public or private underground storage structures for optimum rainwater management. During a rainstorm, the rainwater enters the storage tank through one or more collector pipes that are connected to an inlet. The rainwater is distributed by a drainage network located between the AZbox module segments. When the inflow becomes higher than the outflow, the water slowly rises in the AZbox modules,” mentioned Nidaplast’s Marketing and Communication Manager Claire Ducreux.

The new rainwater drainage and temporary storage system is easy to install. Maintenance is also easy, as all levels of the structure can be inspected by remote-controlled camera or hydro-jetted between module segments and in the drainage diffuser located between segments.

Solutions in compliance with new water regulations

Nidaplast environnement proposes solutions that are compliant with new regulations on conservation and rehabilitation of surface water, and on groundwater (the EU Water Framework Directive and the French LEMA, or law on water and aquatic environments, and PLU, the local land-use plans).

“With the new regulations from the Grenelle environmental initiative, 2/3 of European Union waters must be in good ecological and chemical condition by 2015, with the goal of achieving 90% by 2021. To reach the objectives set by the EU Water Framework Directive from now to 2015 for the good conditions of the different environments over the entire European territory, Nidaplast environnement is helping to set up innovative solutions for good sustainable rainwater management.

Lightweight, rapidly and easily implemented, the AZbox module (1,200 mm x 600 mm) is a new infrastructure to manage rainwater stored underground in order to facilitate efficient conservation of land and natural environments and avoid hazardous, polluting flooding during heavy rains,” said Nidaplast’s General Manager, Patrick Stievenard.

Reducing the carbon footprint with the market’s most compact stackable rainwater storage solution, for cost-efficient transport

The AZbox solution is the only one with such optimum packaging: the stackable modules in a single shipment represent up to 326 cubic metres of actual rainwater storage, reducing transport costs. “With 30 years of experience in rainwater management using underground storage, Nidaplast is fleshing out and optimising its expertise with AZbox, an efficient, easy and competitive solution that enables us to take part in public sustainable development initiatives,” concluded Claire Ducreux at Nidaplast.

AZbox is a further addition to the Nidaplast line of rainwater drainage and temporary storage products

Responding to environmental issues such as soil sealing, flooding, and environmental pollution, Nidaplast has added AZbox to its range of ultra-light honeycomb structures for rainwater drainage and temporary storage. Other products in the line are Nidaplast® EP and Nidaflow® EP blocks and panels: clean structures that can be self-cleaned with an external diffuser, hydro-jetted and inspected.
