Water Expo China

Sep 13 2010

Water Expo China 2010, China’s only official show for the water industry sponsored by China’s Ministry of Water Resources, will take place at the National Convention Center in Beijing from 17 – 19 November 2010.

The show is organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd and the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES). Last year it attracted 252 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions and 10,239 visitors from 30 countries and regions. An increase in exhibitor and visitor numbers is expected this year at the venue which is Beijing’s newest international conference centre. It is located in the heart of Beijing Olympic Green which houses the Water Cube (National Aquatic Centre) and the National Indoor Stadium.

Mr Jason Cao, General Manager, Messe Frankfurt Shanghai Co Ltd said that Water Expo China is acknowledged within the water industry sector as an effective forum for exhibitors and visitors to meet key decision makers from China and the global water industry.

“Recognising the importance of our show, China’s Zhejiang province is supporting local water companies from the fast growing city of Taizhou with an exhibition subsidy,” he added. “The subsidy is for 300 sqm exhibition space and it is being arranged by CCPIT Taizhou, a foreign economic trade organisation which has more than 2,000 members who include companies and associations. This is a great honour for us.”

More than 70 participants attended a seminar in Japan organised by Messe Frankfurt and the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), a government-related organisation that promotes mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. As a result of the successful seminar, JETRO is expanding their exhibition space at Water Expo China.

Mr Cao said that Japanese companies want to enter the Chinese water market because of its size. The Japanese water market is estimated to be worth between JPY 100 – 200 billion, while China’s market is expected to be worth JPY 12 trillion by 2025.

Ms Wen Ma, Energy from Environment Technology Division Industry and Technology Department from Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) said small and medium sized Japanese companies are wanting a connection to China’s central and regional governments, related organisations and private enterprises. “JETRO plans to create as many business opportunities for Japanese companies at Water Expo China by working together with the sponsors, Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES) and Messe Frankfurt Shanghai,” she added. “Companies exhibiting in the Japanese Pavilion are confident that they are able to provide the necessary technology, products and know-how to the Chinese.”

The China (International) Water Business Summit is China’s most authoritative and professional water event and coincides with the final year of China’s "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" and the first year of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan".

This year’s theme is Water Quality, Opportunity and Challenge and preliminary topics include water safety, water business investment and financing, non-traditional water use, China water price and the Southwest China Drought project. The two-day summit is organised by the Department of Water Resources Management, Ministry of Water Resources, PRC, Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, China Environment Service Industry Association and Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd.
