Landia pumps to boost capacity at coastal Queensland sewage treatment plant

12 Sep, 2025

Landia Chopper Pumps are heading to Queensland, Australia, as part of a major multi-million-dollar upgrade to a key sewage treatment plant (STP).

Eight Landia MPTK-GI chopper pumps will be installed to enhance the facility’s sludge treatment process, supporting efforts to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs in response to growing population demands along Australia's sand-rich coastline.

Scheduled for completion in 2028, the upgraded STP—located near several popular surfing destinations—will increase capacity to serve an additional 25,000 residents over the next 20 years.

Equipped with an external knife system that prevents solids from entering the pump casing, Landia’s Chopper Pump—originally invented by the company in 1950—continues to set the global standard for durability and reliability.

This project follows a recent order from STORTEC Engineering for Landia’s GasMix digester mixing system, which will be deployed in 4,000m³ digesters at another Australian site. Landia is also supplying its JetMix system for a hydrolysis tank at the same food-waste-to-energy facility.
