Ham Baker Adams (part of F J Holdings Ltd) has won a new contract to design, manufacture, supply and supervise the installation of high-head special stainless steel penstocks in Doha, Qatar.

The 18m on-and-off-seating penstocks, including two sized at 2.5m2 and 3.0m2, are to be installed in stormwater pumping stations for the Lusail Expressway in Doha, due to be completed in 2016. The project is a key component of Qatar’s overall Expressway Programme, which with 900km of new roads is one of the most important infrastructure projects for the country’s public works authority, Ashghal.

Despite strong competition, Ham Baker Adams secured the coveted contract because they were able to fully comply with the exacting specification and site requirements. The UK company also has an excellent track record for supplying similar heavy duty penstocks in the region, including Wathba in Abu Dhabi and Ras Az Zawr in Saudi Arabia.

Set to provide a vital connection into Katara, Lusail City, the future Doha Bay crossing and the four million square metre man-made island, Pearl-Qatar, the 5.3 km, four-lane Lusail Expressway will also cater for future light rail transit (LRT) and Metro's Red Line North. Iconic superstructures at key locations along the route will complete the striking look of this world class road network, making it a true landmark in the region.

Ham Baker Adams Ltd is part of F J Holdings Ltd, together with Industrial Penstocks Ltd, Industrial Pipeline Supplies Ltd and Industrial Valves Ltd. These companies offer a complete solution for quality flow control and process equipment to the water, wastewater, power, petrochemical and process industries.
