Rochester Plastics Recycling Facility Recovers from Fire Incident

Leading recycling company Viridor (UK) is delighted to announce their £12.5 million Plastics Recycling Facility (PRF) in Rochester has returned to operational status following a fire on Sunday 7th June.

The fire was in the input storage material and started whilst some operations were happening in that area.  There are no suspicious circumstances and staff on site attempted to put out the fire whilst emergency services were called. All emergency safety procedures were correctly followed and nobody was injured.

Material in this storage area was damaged along with the Viridor office building. Firefighting activity stopped the fire from causing significant damage to the main plant. The plant is now accepting loose feed from customers and will soon return to accepting baled materials as well.

Derek Edwards, Regional Director for Viridor, said: “I would like to express thanks on behalf of all at Viridor for the fast response and excellent cooperation from the emergency services that attended on the evening of the fire, especially Kent Fire and Rescue. Their fast action and partnership working with the Viridor team meant that the main building was prevented from sustaining any serious damage and has enabled us to return to operational status quickly and efficiently. This enables us to continue to provide the essential recycling infrastructure needed by our customers and partners.”
