Environmentalist Sir Jonathon Porritt to speak at RWM 2014

Feb 17 2014

Esteemed environmentalist, author, Green Party champion and Forum of the Future founder, Sir Jonathon Porritt, will be speaking at the RWM in partnership with CIWM 2014 conference on 16 September at the NEC, Birmingham. Speaking in the Leaders Arena at Europe’s leading resource and waste management event, supported by the Environmental Services Association, Porritt will draw on his extensive experience in sustainability during his talk.

Sir Porritt will address the pressing global environmental issues of today and how resource and waste management is a key component. He will draw upon his experience as environmental advisor to many organisations and individuals including Prince Charles, Wessex Water and Marks and Spencer.
Professor Walter Stahel, founder-director of The Product-Life Institute in Geneva who coined the term circular economy, will also speak in the Leaders Arena on 17 September about the realities and opportunities of embedding the circular economy in the mainstream business model.

Porritt and Stahel are two of over 200 waste and environmental experts, delivering more than 70 talks in the free to attend RWM conference, which takes place in four theatres over the three days. The theatre programmes will provide advice, insight and case studies on how organisations can manage, but also generate better value from their waste.

At the heart of RWM in partnership with CIWM’s extensive conference programme is the Leaders Arena, which once again brings together CEOs, policy makers and special guest speakers to debate the big issues and share their vision for the future of waste and resource.

The Commerce and Industry Theatre will target the 4,000 waste producers that visit the show annually and the Local Authority Theatre will house a comprehensive line-up of local authority speakers sharing strategic insight and best practice in municipal waste management. The Energy from Waste Theatre sees the experts discuss and debate outlooks for the UK market, from infrastructure financing to technological development and the role of export.

New for RWM in 2014 is the Networking Hub, a new show area that will harness the extensive business opportunities at the show, that the seminars help create, by providing facilitated meetings with key buyers.

Sarah Porter, Divisional Director for the environment events at i2i, including RWM, said: “Jonathon’s talk is a much anticipated key presentation at RWM in partnership with CIWM this year. Few people in the industry can boast such a vast portfolio of expertise, which touches on all of the key environmental issues.

“Once again, we’re investing heavily in our extensive three day free conference programme at RWM to meet the growing demand of visitor expectations from Europe’s largest waste management event.

“53% of our visitors last year said it was ‘very important’ that RWM delivers networking opportunities. Having listened to that feedback, we’re creating a new theatre programme and offering free pre-booked networking sessions in the Networking Hub,” added Porter.

The RWM conference runs alongside the substantial industry exhibition that showcases all of the latest and most popular waste management products and services from over 750 exhibitors. All waste solutions will be on show, from the largest machines, sorters and carriers to logistics, technology, financial and legal services.

The RWM exhibition and conference is free to attend and takes place from 16 to 18 September 2014 in the larger halls of 4 to 5 at the NEC, Birmingham.
