MacLean Engineering (Canada), an ISO 90001 certified firm based in Collingwood, Ontario has introduced new processing technology for "closed-loop" aerosol and paint container recycling. MacLean Engineering is a privately owned company recognised as a global leader in the design and production of specialised equipment for the mining and waste management industries.

Two of these new "HazPak" recycling systems have recently been installed in North America. One HazPak system has just completed one year of commercial operations in Quebec, Canada. It was designed to process an array of Hazardous waste streams, including household paint, aerosol cans and handheld propane canisters.

A second HazPak system is currently being commissioned in the U.S. Midwest. This system was specifically designed to process up to 9000 Aerosol cans per hour whilst capturing and separating the propellant gases, liquid contents and the metals within a safe "No Oxygen" atmosphere. The 3 waste streams are stored and ready for a 100% recycling solution. This technology has been accepted as "Best Available Technology" (BTA) in the U.K and the E.U.

Mike Mackay, formerly of Eko Environmental, is Sales Director of the product line for MacLean – “I’m delighted to be part of such a quality-focused firm, and excited about introducing this new carbon-footprint-reducing technology to the world market.”
