Mounteagle Farm has Never Been so Warm!

Aug 22 2012

Mounteagle Farm is a farm made up of 500-acres arable land found north of Inverness in Scotland. Recently they have installed Windhager's (UK) Bio WIN boilers to create heating using biomass.

The farm consists of a large farmhouse, a number of tenanted cottages, a holiday cottage and numerous farm outbuildings. The new boiler has been installed to replace the old central heating in the farmhouse and two of the cottages, with a centrally located boiler room and pellet store.

The boiler room was built within an existing building, made up of two 45kW BioWIN Exclusiv boilers in cascade, with an automatic change over unit, each with eight suction probes. A 1,500 litre AccuWIN accumulator tank has also been installed with a 15-tonne capacity wood pellet hopper housed remotely from the main plant room. The Windhager suction system enables wood pellet boilers to be located up to 25 metres away.

Stewart Macintyre of Highland Heat & Power specified and installed the Windhager products, “Windhager offers quality equipment, manufacturer and installer back-up. The client preferred the operational advantages of a two unit cascade system as well as the preference for wood pellet fuel that provides an automatic trouble-free operation.”

Douglas Russell, owner of Mounteagle Farm also commented, "I chose a Windhager biomass boiler because it was clearly a well engineered quality boiler system from Austria, with a robust reputation, supported by a network of local engineers providing full backup. The installation, commissioning and operation of the system has been a fantastic experience. The system works perfectly. We have never been so warm in our house. I don't know why I waited as long as I did!“

BioWIN wood pellet boilers are built to be a completely automated, environmentally friendly way of heating buildings. The system is designed to ensure minimal CO2 emissions with maximum output. The BioWIN wood pellet heating solution is aimed at larger heating requirements. The development was focused on maximising fuel efficiencies, safety and easy operation along with a compact design and unique flexible pellet storage solution. The two BioWIN boilers running in cascade at Mounteagle Farm can offer a varied output, sensing that if only one boiler is needed, only one will turn on, providing a modulating output from 13.5kW to 90kW.

Windhager AccuWIN accumulator tanks are the ideal supplement to biomass boilers harnessing energy and releasing it only when required. With tank capacities ranging from 825 to 1500 litres, these storage tanks also allow for cascade use to increase their performance and efficiency.

The full range of wood pellet boilers and log gasification boilers from Windhager are manufactured to the highest standards and are approved HETAS and MCS appliances making them eligible for financial support through the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme.
