Commenting on the EU Commission's consultation on draft rules for state support in energy and environmental field, Energy UK (UK) said: "Energy companies need to have a stable and predictable regulatory framework if they are to invest in new power stations. That is why Energy UK  welcomes the proposals on State Aid Guidelines for energy and environment which the European Commission has put out for consultation today.

The energy sector is changing rapidly with huge challenges ahead such as the necessity for major new investment in energy infrastructure. We support the Commission’s aims for broader and more consistent rules on state aid, and are pleased to see the consultation recognises the need to provide some flexibility so that individual countries can tackle their own issues with energy  security. Energy UK will be looking with particular interest at the detailed proposals on renewable energy support and capacity mechanisms."
