GEA strengthens water and wastewater treatment Portfolio with Flocmix acquisition

21 Aug, 2025

GEA is expanding its solutions for water and wastewater treatment by acquiring the established Flocmix brand. With this strategic move, GEA enhances its expertise in decanter centrifuge technology and strengthens its focus on automation, efficiency, and sustainability for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants.

At the heart of the integration is the Flocmix centrate sensor, a highly specialised technology that monitors centrate quality in real time. When turbidity or colour changes are detected, the sensor automatically adjusts the operating parameters of the centrifuge. This intelligent response improves solids retention, enhances effluent quality, and reduces both resource consumption and operating costs, creating clear benefits for operators.

Flocmix technology is already proving its value within GEA OptiPartner Intellicant, a modular upgrade kit for decanters that combines advanced sensor systems, AI-driven control through the “Virtual Operator,” and full real-time process transparency. By automating routine tasks, continuously optimising sludge dry matter content, and stabilising centrate quality, GEA Intellicant reduces manual intervention while increasing efficiency. Monthly performance reports provide detailed cost transparency, and even a one percent increase in sludge dry matter can translate into tens of thousands of euros in annual disposal savings.

“Flocmix represents proven, intelligent wastewater technology and is therefore a perfect fit for our strategic direction,” explains Henni Weweler, Head of GEA’s Business Line Environment. “With this acquisition, we are expanding our portfolio of smart decanter systems and creating additional value for operators around the world who aim to run their plants more efficiently, reliably, and sustainably.”

The acquisition ensures continuity of expertise, service, and product development, while also allowing GEA to build on Flocmix’s technical foundation and many years of project experience. The established site in northern Germany guarantees that customers will continue to benefit from the same high level of quality, fast response times, and tailored support they have come to expect.

By integrating Flocmix products into its portfolio, GEA not only expands its technical capabilities but also reinforces its position as a global innovation leader in environmental technology. Customers now have access to a wider range of solutions from a single source, spanning from precise sensor technologies to fully automated decanter systems. This comprehensive offering enables wastewater treatment plants to operate more sustainably, more efficiently, and with greater future readiness.
