Recycling and Collection Services Expanded with Latest Acquisition

Jul 10 2012

Viridor (UK) has completed the acquisition of Manchester based JWT Holdings Ltd (trading as JWT Waste Services).

JWT is a specialist recycling and collection business based in Atherton, Greater Manchester, employing 45 staff and handling around 70,000 tonnes of material per annum. The business operates a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) and a fleet of twenty-nine vehicles which will be integrated into Viridor’s northern region, complementing the commercial collection services of Viridor’s Trafford Park operation.

Viridor, part of the FTSE 100 Pennon Group, already provides recycling and waste services to some of Manchester’s biggest brands including MediaCityUK, Manchester United and Kelloggs as well as hundreds of businesses across the North West. The acquisition of JWT will allow Viridor to widen its areas of operation across Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire in line with Pennon Groups’ strategy of expanding its waste management activities, particularly in the collection, recycling and energy recovery sectors.

The latest purchase allows Viridor to cement its position as one of the leading waste and recycling operators in the region. Viridor, whose northern headquarters are located in Bolton, also operates the Greater Manchester household waste contract, the largest waste and renewable energy PFI in Europe and is constructing the UK’s biggest Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power plant in Runcorn.

Commenting on the acquisition, Regional Director John Viviani said; “JWT is a quality local recycling and waste management business and offers good synergies with our existing business in the North West. We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues and to providing existing and new customers with a continued high quality service.”

He added “The acquisition continues our investment in essential recycling and renewable energy services in the region, such as the construction of the Runcorn EfW facility alongside our advanced recycling facilities, helps us to meet the needs of local businesses which are looking to recycle more and to minimise the amount of waste they send to landfill.”

John Thomasson from JWT Waste Services said “I am delighted that Viridor has been able to secure the acquisition of JWT. This is good news for our employees, customers, suppliers and all other stakeholders in the business, and will allow the business to grow.”
