Growing waste is a huge challenge for the countries in South-East Europe. ‘Save the Planet’ (Bulgaria) will present the most modern sustainable solutions and practices for solving the multiple problems and will outline good investment opportunities in the Region.

It is an efficient networking platform for case studies, networking and discussions with experts and stakeholders.

The new Waste Management Act was recently adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria. It brings the country into line with European Union rules as it is harmonised with the relevant EU directives in the waste sector.

The law obliges the municipalities to recycle at least 50 % of household waste by 2020, a big change for a country that recycles little of its rubbish other than metals, and 70 % of the construction waste in 2020. As of the present moment in Bulgaria only 5% percent of the waste is recycled. According to the experts this means a significant business niche for the development of private-public partnerships with municipalities.

For the 3rd consecutive year there will be an Austrian Pavilion at ‘Save the Planet’. Among the exhibitors will be leading companies, which will showcase innovative waste management and recycling technologies and products.

The Organiser Via Expo (Bulgaria) has invited keynote speakers from the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD), Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants (CEWEP), European Suppliers of Waste to Energy Technology (ESWET), Association for Waste Treatment and Recycling Technology within VDMA, etc.

A highlight will be the ‘Eco Municipality Competition’. The geographic focus will expand and many municipalities from Bulgaria and South-East Europe will take participation in the 2013 edition.

The event will attract great number of trade visitors - it is part of the South-East European Forum, which includes three parallel exhibitions: EE & RE (Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy), SEE Solar and Smart Buildings.
