EREMA launches AGGLOREMA for contaminated plastic waste recycling

EREMA has introduced AGGLOREMA, a new recycling system designed to process heavily contaminated post-consumer plastic waste. The system transforms film rejects with high moisture and inconsistent composition into high-density agglomerates—an ideal feedstock for chemical recycling and other application.

“AGGLOREMA closes the gap between highly contaminated waste and reactor-ready feedstock,” says Klaus Lederer, Business Development Manager Chemical Recycling at EREMA. “It’s a robust, energy-efficient solution that supports chemical recyclers in handling low-grade plastic fractions.”

Capable of processing material with moisture levels up to 12% and bulk densities as low as 30 kg/m³, AGGLOREMA uses EREMA’s Preconditioning Unit (PCU), patented Counter Current® technology, and a specially designed extruder screw. This combination ensures stable processing even with fluctuating input materials.

The system produces agglomerates with bulk densities of 280–380 kg/m³ and defined particle sizes. Optional drying can reduce residual moisture to below 1%. Thanks to its efficient extrusion process, AGGLOREMA minimises energy use while delivering high throughput—up to 2.3 tonnes per hour with room to scale.

AGGLOREMA also supports mechanical recycling. For instance, agglomerates from mixed polyolefins can be reused in basic manufacturing applications.

CHEMAREMA® and advanced system design

Alongside AGGLOREMA, EREMA offers CHEMAREMA®, a system that feeds melt directly into chemical recycling reactors. Built for high throughput (up to 4.5 tonnes/hour) and long-term wear resistance, these systems are designed for the harsh conditions of processing contaminated plastics. New screw designs and materials are under development to further enhance durability.

Edvanced Recycling: A push for circular plastics

Under the "Edvanced Recycling" banner, EREMA continues to develop advanced solutions that help customers increase the share of recycled material in plastic production. With over four decades of experience, EREMA systems deliver high-quality pellets tailored to everything from food-grade to industrial applications.
