International Waste-to-Product Company Wins Two Major Contracts with City of Liege

Jun 03 2015

International waste-to-product company Shanks has won two major contracts with the City of Liege, which will make more from the waste produced by the City.

Shanks successfully renewed a household waste collection contract with the City of Liege which the company has held for the past 25 years. Under the contract, Shanks will manage the collection of all the residual waste from the City’s 200,000 people. In order to help the City meet its stringent recycling targets, recyclates will be separated and the remaining waste will be used to generate green energy. The renewal of this contract highlights the City’s trust and confidence in Shanks, as well as allowing the company to continue providing its high quality waste management services to the City for another eight years.

Additionally, Shanks has won a public cleaning services contract with the City of Liege. Under the contract, Shanks will empty public waste bins and provide mechanical sweeping of public roads. The contract will work in conjunction with Shanks’ renewal of the household waste contract in the City and allows Shanks’ to use its expertise and high standards in safety, quality and customer service in this broader capacity.

Both of the contracts, worth approximately €8M in revenue each year, support Shanks’ growing market presence in Belgium and allow the company to retain its long-term relationship with one of Wallonia’s largest cities. The company is the second largest waste management company in Wallonia and employs over 800 people throughout Belgium. It handles over one million tonnes of waste in Belgium each year and is a leading manufacturer of waste-derived fuel in the country.

Patrick Laevers, Managing Director of Shanks’ Commercial Belgium Division, commented:

“We are delighted to win these two major contracts which will allow us to continue our long-term relationship with the City of Liege and to broaden our offering to include public cleaning services.  The securing of these contracts demonstrates our ability to deliver concrete and reliable solutions to the challenges that major cities face today. I am delighted that our teams will continue to support Liege, through our knowledge and expertise in being a leading waste-to-product company.”
