Slurry Mixer Gets Beneath the Surface at Award-Winning Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, Home of the Glastonbury Festival

A submersible slurry mixer made by Landia (UK) has completed 17 years of uninterrupted service at Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, home of the Glastonbury Festival.

Winners of the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers’ prestigious Gold Cup, the 230 hectare Worthy Farm’s slurry is served by a Landia POP 18.5 kW 300 rpm submersible mixer, which apart from routine servicing (carried out by Landia engineers), works continuously without breakdowns. 

Michael Eavis, founder of the Glastonbury Festival and owner of Worthy Farm, said:  “We’ve had the Landia slurry mixer so long it’s easy to take it for granted. After all these years, I can’t believe it’s still there beneath the surface doing a fantastic job!”

The mixer, which can deal with thick surface crusts and heavy sediments, homogenises slurry from Worthy Farm’s 385-cow Holstein Friesian herd, giving a consistent, uniformed distribution of nutrients. 

In winning the Gold Cup, Worthy Farm was praised for its unique building layout and exceptional attention to detail, which has ensured that the highest standards of cow health and welfare are met, which is being reflected in milk yields.
