Appointments Made in the Cabinet Reshuffle Welcomed
May 22 2015
The Environmental Services Association (ESA), the voice for the UK’s resource and waste management industry, today welcomed the appointments made in the cabinet reshuffle, following the election of the new Conservative government.
ESA’s Executive Director, Jacob Hayler said:
“We welcome the recently announced appointments to the Cabinet, and welcome the opportunity to work with a Ministerial line-up which incorporates some new as well as familiar faces.
Following the reshuffle, and in the absence of an over-arching Office of Resource Management, it is important that Government departments work together to further the UK’s resources agenda.
A key environmental priority for the next Government should be to find a way for the UK to meet its 2020 household recycling targets without local authorities going bust. The industry is keen to help the Government solve this conundrum, as well as other key issues affecting our sector.
One of our main concerns is waste crime, and the Government must maintain the momentum created by the previous Administration, by continuing to support the industry and the Environment Agency in the fight to reduce the impact that waste crime has on the environment and the economy.”
