Pyropure system 'could change waste management landscape'

A new waste management system called Pyropure could lead to seismic changes in the industry, allowing the on-site disposal of non-recyclable organic waste in a small unit.

MRW revealed their model last month and is set to launch it later this year. It is the combined effort of many years of work, and could be used in a number of sectors from retail to health to military, to dispose of their waste at source.

There are clear benefits at hand for these sectors. Disposal at source could save a lot of money in landfill fees and transportation costs. But most noticeably, the new system allows for on-site energy production and offers customers complete ownership of their waste management processes.

Nigel Mattravers, head of waste at Grant Thornton, told MRW: “There is definitely a market for something like this but people have tried and failed before. It will be very interesting to see this product.”

Other groups are also grappling to produce their own versions of this technology. Most noticeably, the privatised research arm of the Ministry of Defence QinetiQ is looking to develop a similar system.
