Axion Engineering shows the lighter side of recycling technology at RWM 2011

Aug 31 2011

Resource recovery specialist Axion Engineering makes its sales and marketing debut with NESTRO Lufftechnik GmbH at RWM 2011 to showcase NESTRO’s range of highly-efficient air separation technologies for diverse waste material streams, including those from kerbside recycling, mixed plastics, paper/card/wood, energy from waste and construction sectors.

Taking centre stage on Stand 3170 in Hall 20 will be NESTRO’s air separator demo unit, which uses cleverly-controlled air-flows to sort light fractions from heavyweight items. Demonstrations throughout the three-day event will show visitors the full-scale unit’s impressive ability to efficiently separate materials based upon varying density and wind-resistance.

Designed to either retro-fit to existing Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) or to install in new plant builds, the NESTRO equipment provides a cost-effective and efficient solution for lights separation from bulky waste streams, such as the removal of plastic films from rigid packaging items. One particular market where huge benefits have been realised in Europe is for the clean-up of residual paper and films from incinerator bottom-ash, allowing the cleaned output product to be used in road-building aggregates.

It is particularly aimed at older facilities challenged by the fast-changing composition of dry-recyclables and increased tonnages of mixed plastics from kerbside collections. Higher proportions of plastic film waste are causing difficulties for older MRFs to separate efficiently.

Axion Director, Keith Freegard, says: “We are anticipating great interest in this flexible NESTRO system from waste industry professionals across all types of sectors such as municipal waste processing and sorting plants, construction and demolition waste processing plants, green waste processing plants and WEEE and ELV waste processing plants.

“MRF managers are under pressure to optimise their processes and maximise the value and quality of waste materials from their operations. The NESTRO equipment is designed to be an effective solution to the challenges they face, while helping to improve overall profitability by reducing the need for extra hand-picking labour.”

Keith adds: “We may be ‘talking rubbish’, but we hope visitors to our stand will be pleasantly ‘blown away’ by the sheer capability of the NESTRO air separator and what it can do!”

Axion Engineering is part of the Axion Group that develops and operates innovative resource recovery and processing solutions for recycling waste materials. As well as supplying machinery, Axion Engineering’s specific expertise lies in designing and project managing new recycling plants and plant modifications for third parties. Its expert team can also advise on equipment selection and process engineering trials as required.
