2019 International Cleanup Conference. World leaders from research & industry.

Jun 26 2019

'Remediating the planet' is the theme for this year’s International Cleanup Conference for good reason. The event has attracted the world leaders in research and industry who are presenting the latest technologies and case studies for contaminated site assessment, management and remediation.

"Registrations for the event exceed expectations," says Dr Ravi Naidu, organiser and CEO of CRC CARE, "which is really exciting to see. The high quality papers being submitted from all four corners of the Earth are presenting the latest significant advances in science and technology to truly remediate the planet."

The global forum will also include the latest on PFAS, featuring new technologies that have proven themselves in the field to detect and render harmless this dangerous contaminant.

This is the eighth year the conference has run, attracting more than 700 delegates. A key feature of this year’s event is the global expertise for workshops to accelerate knowledge and skills. Much of the content and information is highly innovative and won’t be found anywhere else.

"Much of the value for the conference comes from the offline conversations, knowledge and discussions you just can’t get from a paper or website. Because we only run the conference every two years, people tend to be very hungry to share, connect and engage with fellow industry professionals," says Professor Naidu.

2019 highlights for the workshops include:

  • The miracle of molecular diagnostic tools (MBT) for Bioremediation
  • Key technical and regulatory issues associated with PFAS
  • Fractured rock characterisation and remediation is difficult but not impossible
  • Understanding TPH for the management of contaminated sites.

Supporting innovation is another key feature of the event, with the presentation of the CARE Award, recognising products that are unique, marketable and with features that improve the users’ life or work. The 2017 winner, InSite created a process to remove PFAS from contaminated water.

The 2019 winner can look forward to an exclusive hand-crafted trophy, $10,000 AUD cash prize and media exposure via Remediation Australasia. Nominations are still open.

A selection of the international line up of speakers includes:

  • Dr Paul Nathanail, Land Quality Management
  • Dr Greg Davis, CSIRO
  • Dr Kurt Pennell, Professor of Engineering, Brown University
  • Dr Dora Taggart
  • President, Microbial Insights
  • Dr Jason Conder
  • Senior Scientist, Geosyntec

The conference is being held in Adelaide, South Australia – a city ranked as one of the most liveable in the world, which boasts world-class wine regions and the iconic Adelaide Oval.

The conference begins: 8-12 September 2019
