Waste Framework Consultant Appointed to Fife Council

Jul 02 2013

Environmental firm, SLR Consulting (UK) has secured a framework contract with Fife Council for the period 2013 to 2018 for the provision of landfill, waste treatment and renewables consultancy services.

The appointment follows on from SLR supporting Fife Council for over ten years in the development of Waste Infrastructure within the region, most recently with the ongoing development of a 43,000 tonnes per annum green and food waste AD plant near Dunfermline.

The Lochhead AD facility, shortly moving into the commissioning phase, is designed with capacity to accept around 40,000 tonnes per annum of co-collected household food and garden wastes, as well as 3,000 tpa of commercial food wastes. Once commissioned (in late 2013) it will generate 5.4 million m3 of biogas annually, generating 1.5 MW of electrical power, and will provide surplus process heat to a local district heating scheme.

Duncan Thomas, SLR Technical Director and Project Manager for the Framework, who is based in the Edinburgh office, said: “We are delighted to be awarded this Contract, and to be able to continue working with this long established client into a period which will be critical in terms of Waste Infrastructure development to meet the impending landfill diversion targets in Scotland”.

Fife Council Senior Sustainability Manager, Chris Ewing, said: “SLR is a leader in the waste industry and has provided us with expert advice over the last ten years. We look forward to continuing to work with them.”
