Facility Achieves Prestigious ISO 50001 Certification in Energy Management

Aug 21 2012

Landis+Gyr (Switzerland), global energy management solutions provider, has announced that its facility at Northfields Industrial Estate in the East of England has been awarded ISO 50001 certification, thus becoming one of the first facilities worldwide to achieve this prestigious award.

ISO 50001 is a voluntary international standard developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) for energy management. The certification provides organisations with a framework in order to develop policies for more efficient energy use and fix targets and objectives to meet that policy. Furthermore, it allows the organisations to use data to better understand their energy use, make better decisions about their energy consumption and measure the results of these efforts. Companies have the ability to review the effectiveness of the policies they put in place and thereby continually improve energy management.

“This is the culmination of many months of hard work and several years of continuous energy efficiency improvements” said Peter Garwood, Engineering and Facilities Manager, Landis+Gyr EMEA. “This globally recognised and accredited award helps Landis+Gyr save money operationally as well as helping us to conserve resources, reduce our carbon footprint and tackle climate change.”

Energy usage is critical to Landis+Gyr’s operations and in addition to the economic consequences of energy costs, there are also environmental and social considerations. By going through the rigorous certification process, Landis+Gyr has shown its commitment to making the most efficient use of scarce natural resources.

“I am extremely proud of our team at Northfields for their focus and great efforts on managing energy better that is being recognised with this certification. My congratulations go out to all involved” said Tom White, Senior Vice President, Smart Energy Solutions. “This is a shining example that Landis+Gyr lives its mission to ‘help the world manage energy better."
