Meppen in Germany was built at the end of 2003. Now 4,5 years later, as a result of Emsland’s success in the market, the plant’s production capacity has to be increased for the fourth time. From the original 80.000 broilers per day, the capacity will now be boosted to more than 380.000 broilers a day.
A challenge for Emsland Frischgeflugel, but also a challenge for the Dutch waste water treatment supplier AQUA IW (www.mps-aqua.nl) as poultry slaughtering plants generate a lot of heavily polluted water. AQUA carried out the expansion of the existing waste water treatment plant. The new facility is now capable of treating more than 3,500 m3 per day with a pollution load comparable with that of a city with 175.000 inhabitants. The biggest challenge was to guarantee the stringent effluent parameters required to discharge into the Ems River. This was a strict requirement set by Emsland.
The use of specific design characteristics and in depth process knowledge allowed AQUA to successfully accomplish this turnkey project.
Manager Richard Wenneker of Emsland Frischgeflügel explains the choice
for a wastewater treatment plant from AQUA:
“4,5 years ago Emsland Frischgeflügel asked several suppliers to make an offer. AQUA (formerly know as Stork AQUA) designed the optimal solution for our company. Due to the growth of our production capacity, we also needed a waste water system which could treat a larger amount of factory effluent. Based on our good business relationship in the past years, the decision was easily taken to award the order to AQUA.”
