UK Waste Disposal Firm is Industry Leader for WAMITAB Training

Jun 02 2015

O’Donovan Waste Disposal (UK) has again demonstrated its continued commitment to excellence by offering the NVQ level 2 and 3 Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) training courses to all of its staff.

More than 60 waste-handlers, office staff and management at O’Donovan are currently undertaking the WAMITAB training, making O’Donovan’s investment one of the most substantial upskilling programmes WAMITAB has seen from an SME within the sector. This demonstrates how training employees is at the heart of everything the company does.

The WAMITAB courses ensure that staff have full awareness and training with regards to safety aspects of waste management process procedures, as well as ensuring the quality of the materials recovered.

Jacqueline O’Donovan, managing director of O’Donovan Waste Disposal, commented: “At O’Donovan, we are committed to developing our team, ensuring that all receive training, not only at the start, but throughout their employment. This ensures that our staff members, our biggest asset, operate to the highest standards in terms of service delivery, health and safety and environmental practices, which are all beneficial in providing the service our clients expect.

“We run the level 2 WAMITAB in a multi-lingual format to ensure that every single one of our waste-handlers is fully trained on how to handle and process the material we receive safely and effectively. Upskilling the team and sharing knowledge is paramount to ensuring a better safety culture across our operations and the industry as a whole.”

Mark Hyde, commercial director at WAMITAB added: “We are delighted that, in these challenging times for skills and education, one of our leading employers has invested so substantially in the development of the workforce.

“WAMITAB are the custodians of the competence system on behalf of the sector at senior level; so we are supportive of O’Donovan’s aims to develop this culture across the whole of the company. Everyone has a right to come home safely from work and being well trained is crucial to making this happen.”

WAMITAB, formed in 1989, is an awarding organisation that develops qualifications and certificates for those working in waste management and recycling amongst others. The not-for-profit company works directly with industry leaders to shape and deliver employer-led qualifications that provide individuals with fit-for-purpose skills for the workplace. The WAMITAB NVQ level 2 and 3 courses provide O’Donovan staff with the most up to date information, skills and aptitude to ensure safe and effective working practices within the waste industry.
