India to replicate Israel over waste management

India is looking to an Israeli model for waste management inspiration, with 13 delegates from the country taking part in a conference on environmental, sustainable energy and water technologies.

Deputy mayor S Harish noted that the group visited Tel Aviv's Arrow Ecology Municipal Solid Waste Plant, which treats up to 300 tonnes of mixed or unsorted solid waste a day, the New Indian Express reports.

He went on to suggest that India is now intending to set up five similar plants across Bangalore, which will also be able to handle 300 tonnes of waste each.

Discussing Israel's operations, Mr Harish noted that the country is very forward where waste technology is concerned. "If any valve gets blocked, they rectify it through technology through their computers," he remarked.

Over in the UK, green waste collection appears to be growing in popularity, with nearly 17,000 people agreeing to pay £36 to have bins picked up in Gloucester - far above the 9,000 originally predicted, the Citizen reported.
