Additional 2.2MW Deployed to the 32.2MW Wymeswold Solar Farm

May 20 2015

Trina Solar Limited (China), a global leader in photovoltaic (“PV”) modules, solutions, and services, has today announced that it has been selected by solar energy specialist Foresight Group LLP (Foresight) to supply a 2.2MW extension to Wymeswold Solar Farm (Wymeswold), a large-scale PV installation at a former RAF airfield in Leicestershire, UK owned by Foresight Solar Fund Limited (FSFL) and managed by Foresight.

Wymeswold was the first operational plant acquired by FSFL in November 2013 at 32.2MWp with a ROC accreditation of 2.0ROCs, having been connected to the grid in March 2013. This 2.2MWp extension represents a 7% increase in capacity at the plant, bringing it up to 34.4MWp, and was connected to the grid before the 31 March 2015 deadline for 1.4ROC accreditation. This 2.2MWp extension at 1.4ROCs does not affect the 2.0ROC accreditation obtained for the initial capacity installed.

Wymeswold forms a part of the Prestwold Estate in Leicestershire, England and consists of over 1,000 hectares of farmland, parkland and the airfield. Trina Solar initially installed 137,000 of its TSM-PC05A ground-mounted poly-crystalline Honey Modules to the site in March 2013, which is enough to power 8,000 homes in the local vicinity.

Trina Solar’s TSM-PC05A poly-crystalline Honey Modules provide excellent performance, even in challenging weather conditions, with a power output range of 250-260W, making it a suitable panel for large-scale installations.

The plant’s energy generation has consistently surpassed expectations. Having been impressed with the performance of Trina Solar’s panels, Foresight commissioned Trina Solar to supply a further 2.2MW of 265W mono-crystalline Honey PV modules, to enhance the plant’s energy generation capabilities and maintain its status as one of the largest solar farms in the UK. The modules maximise space by enabling high levels of efficiency and excellent performance, even in low light conditions.

Richard Rushin, UK Sales Manager at Trina Solar said: “We were delighted to have been selected by Foresight to deliver a further 2.2MW of our high-performance PV modules to the Wymeswold solar plant. This particular site is significant in that it is a very strong example of how solar farms can generate large amounts of clean energy without disrupting their environments; the airfield’s racetrack is still in use, while sheep graze between and around the panels. The PV modules that we previously installed are performing extremely well and, with the addition of the extra modules, we fully expect to build on this success.”
