Customized PV Modules Translate into Added Value for Solar Projects

Jun 10 2014

Hanwha SolarOne Co., Ltd. (China), a global photovoltaic manufacturer of high-quality, cost-competitive solar modules, showcases its new special-application solar modules at the Intersolar Europe exhibition opening today (4th June) in Munich, Germany. The new modules – on display at the Hanwha Solar stand A2.260 in Hall A2 – are designed for special applications, customer groups and climates. Compared with universal modules, this customisation adds value for specific solar projects.

In the run-up to Intersolar, Maengyoon Kim, Hanwha SolarOne GmbH’s Managing Director for Sales in
Europe, Africa and South-America, emphasised the significance of the European Market: “Europe
remains one of our strongest regions; we succeeded for instance in solidifying our position in the UK
during the last quarter.” The Company also aims to strengthen its position in the European rooftop
segment, and has already taken strategic steps towards this goal. “We are currently introducing higher
power classes, advanced quality measures and flexible ordering models. These and other measures
continuously add benefits for our European customers,” continued Maengyoon Kim.

Mr. Seong-woo Nam, the new CEO of Hanwha SolarOne, is confident that the Company is wellpositioned
for success: “With our extensive experience in the solar module business, close cooperation
with market stakeholders worldwide and a flexible manufacturing model, we can rapidly react to new
customer requirements in a dynamic market environment. And we are proud to pass this advantage on to
our customers in our new product range.”

A highlight of this year’s exhibition is the preview of the new HSL72 Poly - 1500 Volt Edition. This 72-
cell solar module allows more modules to be installed per string and is designed to add value for largescale systems. With this module, up to 50 percent more modules can be installed in series, reducing the overall costs (BOS costs) and improving the PV system performance. Compared with standard solar
modules, a lower levelised cost of energy (LCOE) can be achieved.

Solar projects installed in warm climates will benefit from the innovative heat dissipation and passive
cooling technologies incorporated in the new HSL60 Poly – Hot Environment Edition. The module’s
outstanding features are the lower operating temperature of the solar cells – the NOCT is 40°C – and its
innovative heat dissipation and passive cooling technology. They allow the solar module to perform to a
high level, even at very high temperatures. Compared with conventional PV modules, a test system
achieved more than 10 percent better yields with ambient temperatures exceeding 30°C.

In November 2013 Hanwha SolarOne introduced the HSL60 Poly – Black Edition to the European
market. It has already become a popular choice with owners of residential and commercial rooftops. With
its high quality polycrystalline solar cells embedded on a black back sheet and wrapped in an all-black
aluminum frame, the module combines the high quality features of the HSL-series with an attractive
design.

The HSL poly crystalline module series of Hanwha Solar is characterised by reliable performance and
high durability. The modules are tested for snow loads of up to 7.000 Pascal (~710 kg/m²) as well as wind
loads of 4.000 Pascal (~210 km/h). Size and weight have been minimised to reduce cost during
warehousing and transportation. The high-quality modules are backed by a 12 year product warranty as
well as 25 year linear performance warranty.
